Barth’s
Cleaning Centre opened its doors to the public in April 1977.
Prior to Barth’s
Orangeville opening, Jack Barth worked part time in his parents’
dry cleaning business for 6 years, while going to school and 14
years full time following high school. His parents’ business
grew to 5 locations and 7 delivery routes employing over 50 employees.
They were located in Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Aurora & Newmarket.
When Jack’s parents retired, their business was sold. Jack
decided to start a smaller business more easily managed away from
the hustle and bustle of a larger urban area.
Jack found the location
for his smaller business in November 1976 in Orangeville. Orangeville
had a population of 12,000 people with a shortage of dry cleaning
businesses that knew what the word “service” meant.
It took until April 1977 for the building to be completed and the
dry cleaning and coin laundry machinery to be purchased and installed.
When Barth’s opened, Jack had two full time and three part
time employees in a 2000 square foot portion of a building twice
that big. Barth’s took over another portion of the building
less than one year later and increased staff. Now, Barth’s
Cleaning Centre uses the entire building. In October 2005, Barth’s
opened a second location at Alder Street Mews at Alder and Riddell.
We wanted to be more convenient for servicing our west end customers
and those utilizing the Orangeville Bypass. We offer drop-off and
pick-up along with an on-site seamstress for fittings and alterations.
Barth’s employs 20 full time and 10 part time people between
the 2 locations.
Recently, Barth’s
has started free home pick-up and delivery service routes to estate
neighbourhoods surrounding Orangeville. Not at home ?…Not
a problem…Barth’s is responding to everyone’s
increasing busy schedules.

Ninety eight percent
of the work that comes in is processed on site supporting local
employment. Rugs, feather pillows, leathers, blinds, and furs are
sent to outside specialists. Barth’s does an above average
quality level of work and knows what the word “service”
means.
Barth’s staff are
sent to upgrading seminars on a regular basis. They have attended
trade shows and training courses. Jack Barth is a regular attendee
at conventions and trade shows. Jack has taught dry cleaning night
school courses at Central Technical School in Toronto and was one
of the original people qualified as a Certified Environmental Dry
Cleaning Instructor for the province of Ontario starting in 1994.
Jack is very happy in
Orangeville. Jack appreciates the business he has received from
the Orangeville and surrounding area customers and still feels he
has escaped most of the hustle and bustle of more populated areas.
